A new year, a new you! New Years resolutions to start your new year, well...

January means a new school year, and a chance to make a new start in other ways too. Take a few hours out, and ask yourself: What do I want for myself this year?

Write a list of resolutions (goals) for yourself for the coming year. Here are some ways to making resolutions that will stick all year long:

Imagine what you want your life to look like by the end of the year. Picture it in your mind: who is there, where do you want to be, what do you want to have achieved? It helps to think about the last year, reflecting on the achievements, mistakes and mishaps of last year.

Make a resolution for what you'd like to achieve in school. Maybe you want to improve your marks over all, or do better in one subject. Think about what would make you and your family proud.

Write a resolution to grow as a person. We all have ways in which we can grow and get better - maybe you want to be more helpful, less angry, or kinder to your brother or sister.

Think about making a resolution that doesn't just help you, but is about helping others. Giving your time to those you love, or those less fortunate than you, can help you to feel good about yourself.

Don't write too many resolutions - you're making it harder for yourself if you have too many things to stick to! Try to keep it to 5 or less.

Make your resolutions realistic. Be honest with yourself about what you will be able to achieve. Some resolutions will take more than a year to achieve, so break big goals into smaller goals and accept help from others in trying to achieve your resolutions.

Write your resolutions down and put the resolutions somewhere you will see them every day - stick them next to your bed or desk, or save them on your phone. This will keep reminding you what's important to you, and keep you on track.

Review your progress at the end of each month. If you need help staying on track with your resolutions, you can ask an expert by clicking here!
