MMC: All the facts about medical male circumcision exposed

Medical male circumcision (MMC) is an operation to remove the foreskin from the head of the penis. As a male over the age of 16 years old, you can choose to be circumcised at a local clinic or hospital – if you are younger you can also be circumcised with permission from your parent or guardian. But before you do, it's important to know all the facts about MMC:

•The operation takes between 20 and 30 minutes – it can be done at a clinic and you don't need to stay overnight

•MMC reduces your chances of getting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases

•Medical male circumcision does not affect the size of your penis or your sex drive

•Getting circumcised does not prevent pregnancy and only reduces your chances of HIV infection

•MMC does not reduce your risk of HIV infection, if you have anal sex

•You need to use a condom every time you have sex

•After circumcision, avoid sex for 6 weeks until the wound heals completely

•Chances of HIV infection are higher than normal while the circumcision wound is healing

Now that you clued-up, boys and men get to your local clinic or hospital for MMC!
