Positive ways to spend your time during the holidays

Holidays are a great chance to have fun and celebrate. Make sure you don't get bored and waste the time away – or risk hurting yourself or others. Here are a few ideas to try:


Play sport: ask friends or family if they’d like to join you in a game of soccer, basketball, swimming or whatever you enjoy. Or you could even try a new sport.


Read a book you've been wanting to read all year.


Play cards, or a board game – whatever you have around.


Make a photo journal of your holiday: if you have a camera on your phone, take pictures of things you want to remember from your holiday time.


Make a movie with friends or family: use someone's phone camera, choose a story, costumes and locations. Get creative.


Go for a long walk or run. It's a great way to get away from everything and think – plus it's a good way of getting exercise.


Write: writing about something you're struggling with, or your goals and dreams for the next year, can really help you to get things clear in your mind.


Learn something new: read about something that interests you, or ask someone to teach you a skill you've always wanted to learn.


Create: make something, whether it's a painting or drawing, a piece of woodwork or metalwork, sculpture, beadwork or sewing. You could even give it as a gift to someone you care about.


Give: there are many ways to do something for others who need help. Spend a day helping a family member with a task or project, give away some clothes or toys you don't need, or write a letter to someone you appreciate. Giving to others is a great way to feel good about yourself.
