The importance of helping others

Helping other people might feel like a drag sometimes. Sometimes it takes time, sometimes it takes our energy, and sometimes we might have to give our emotions. You might even feel like you don't have enough yourself. Why not just help yourself? What makes it worth it to help others?

Helping others makes us happy. It's true - scientists have found that people who help others are more satisfied with their lives. There's something great about the feeling of giving to someone who needs help.

We all need help sometimes. Think about your life. Is there anything you need help with right now? Maybe it's school, sport, transport, learning a new skill. Where would you be if people hadn't helped you out? People all rely on each other sometimes.

It's easy. You don't have to save the world. You don't have to give something you don't want to give. Helping someone is as easy as helping a gogo cross the street safely, cooking dinner when you know your parents have had a hard day, or helping a friend with homework.

You might know someone in your family or community who is generous and gives a lot to others. Chat to them about why they do it, and ask if you can join for a day. You might just get that happy feeling.
