Ways to take care of your environment

The environment is everywhere around us – it’s the ground we walk on, the air we breathe and the water we drink. It might seem like a big job to try take care of it, but there are little things you can do to  help make our environment  cleaner and better. Here are some things you can do today and every day:

  • Litter makes any place look worse. Don’t leave your rubbish anywhere except in a dustbin. Get your friends to do the same.
  •  Gas, paraffin, fire and electricity all burn some kind of fuel, either in your house or at a power station somewhere else. The smoke from the burning pollutes the air (makes it dirtier). Don’t leave lights on or fires burning if you are not using them.
  • Save water: don’t leave taps running unless you are using them, and take short showers or baths. Fix leaky taps.
  •  Save water and electricity (or fuel) by only heating as much water as you need.
  •   Re-use plastic bags, or use one cloth bag rather than plastic. Factories that make plastic bags create more pollution.
  •   Don’t take a car or taxi unless you have to – they burn fuel too. Walk, run or take a bicycle around your neighbourhood.

You have the power to make a change to your environment – so do what you can. Every bit helps, and no change is too small!
